The Swift Current Oratorio Choir (SCOC) is a not-for-profit organisation whose members come from all over southwest Saskatchewan. The choir is a diverse group of people, all drawn together by their love for singing and choral music, under the leadership of director Marcia McLean. The choir’s accompanist for both rehearsals and concerts is Sheila Braun. Typically, the choir performs two events in a season—one during the winter, celebrating the music of Christmas, and the other in the spring.
The choir was in great voice for its 2010 Spring production: Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man – A Mass For Peace. The performance date was Sunday, April 11 at Bridgeway Community Church in Swift Current. The piece was commissioned by the Royal Armouries in Leeds, England as part of the Millenium celebrations, and has been highly-praised everywhere it has been performed.
You can find more information about this beautiful and moving piece of music on Karl Jenkins’ web site: www.karljenkins.com, and listen to excerpts on YouTube.
You’ll be able to find details about our 2010-2011 season here as soon as plans are finalised.
The SCOC newsletters have been moved to the choir members’ area. You can find the latest newsletter (January 2010) there.
Photos from our 35thAnniversary Concert have been uploaded and can be accessed from the choir members’ area.
We meet every Monday during the fall and winter—7:30 p.m. at Zion Mennonite Church, 78 6th Avenue NE in Swift Current. Our first rehearsal for Fall 2010 will be September 6.
Come on along. We’re always looking for more singers, and we’d love to meet you!
